Floor Maps of Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons

To help library users find locations in Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons, we have created maps of each floor. These maps can be found on our library website:

When using the maps, hover over and click on library locations to learn more about the available technology and seating in that area.
 
Additionally, if you are unable to locate an available computer, or would prefer a Mac or PC, check our computer availability maps on the library website or on the monitors above the Help Desk in the Bryan Information Commons.

Muslim Journeys Collection Arrives at Kimbel Library


We are excited to announce the 25 books from the Muslim Journeys collection have arrived and they are available to be checked out! They can currently be found on the book display on the first floor of Kimbel Library.

As you may remember, Kimbel Library was recently selected to receive the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA).

In addition, the Library will get access to Oxford Islamic Studies Online for one year.

Watch for programming announcements in the year ahead that will feature the books and films. Kimbel Library is pleased to be able to make this collection available to the CCU community!

Additions to Online Journal and Film Collections

The library has recently made several new additions to its online collection:

JSTOR Arts and Sciences Collections: VIII, IX,  X, & XI
We've added additional journal content to our JSTOR Collection. Added journals are focused in the disciplines of business, political science, history, education, and literature.

Oxford Islamic Studies Online
The library was recently awarded a one year subscription to Oxford Islamic Studies Online, courtesy of the Muslim Journey's grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. 

Filmakers Library Online
The library also has a one year subscription to Filmakers Library Online. This collection includes over 1,000 documentary films that are relevant across the curriculum. Topics include race and gender studies, human rights, and global studies. Selected titles:
  • - Blood in the Mobile, Mining in the Congo
  • - The Forgotten Man: Private Bradley Manning and the Wikileaks Controversy
  • - A Quiet Revolution: Singapore's World Class Educational System

Spring Break Hours

Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons will operate at reduced hours over Spring Break.
  • Friday, March 8: Close at 11:30 PM
  • Saturday, March 9 - Saturday March 16: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Sunday, March 17: 24/7 hours resume at 7:30 AM

Oxford Islamic Studies Online

If you follow our blog, you may remember Kimbel Library was one of 843 libraries recently awarded with the Muslim Journey's grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

Included with this grant is a one year subscription to Oxford Islamic Studies Online. This database features biographies, book chapters, primary sources, images, maps, and other content related to the field of Islamic Studies.

If you are interested in the Koran, you may enjoy viewing the side-by-side English translations available in this resource. 

In addition to Oxford Islamic Studies Online, Kimbel Library was awarded 25 books and 3 videos about Islamic history, society, and culture.
